High School, Tebowing

Two New York High School Students Suspended for Tebowing in Hallways

Two students at Riverhead High School in New York received in-school suspensions for leading a “Tebowing” movement in the school hallways Wednesday.

Tebowing is a social media trend that developed late October after Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow led his team to a comeback win. The trend is similar to planking and owling, only in Tebowing, you drop to one knee and pretend like you’re praying.

About 40 students Tebowed in the hallways at Riverdale Wednesday and two were suspended for their actions. Those two had been Tebowing in the halls every day beginning on Monday.

“The administration told us that our Tebowing was blocking the halls and could potentially cause a riot, because they were growing in number and if the wrong kid gets pushed a brawl could ensue,” one of the students told high school sports blog Prep Rally. “We had no idea that we could get suspended for such a thing. It was a joke between a group of friends that took a life of its own. We figured at the most we would just be told to stop.”

School principal David Wicks told LBS the suspended students aren’t as innocent as they appear. He says all students who participated in the Tebowing session were warned for blocking the hallways, but the ones who were suspended had been previously warned for a similar incident.

Wicks says the two students were warned about a month ago for disrupting traffic in the hallways by forming a human wall. He felt the suspensions, which are of the in-school variety, were warranted.

The students who pulled the stunt were likely looking for attention and received what they wanted. I’m guessing this isn’t what the Tebowing founder had in mind when he created the movement, but you do have to admit the entire story is pretty funny.
