Adrian Gonzalez early home runs are an MLB record

Adrian-Gonzalez

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez is on pace for 270 home runs this season.

The 32-year-old will probably come up just a bit short of that number when all is said and done, but Gonzalez can’t miss at the moment. He has five home runs in his team’s first three games this year. No player in MLB history has ever accomplished that feat.

To give you some perspective, the 12 MLB teams with the least home runs so far have combined for five home runs. We know it’s early, and you could make an argument that these games — let alone Gonzalez’s home runs — mean nothing. That doesn’t make five home runs in 13 at-bats any less impressive.

Gonzalez hit five home runs in his first 13 games last year despite suffering an incredibly bizarre injury before the season began, so he is typically a fast starter. Dodgers fans can only hope this is a sign of things to come.
