Alex Cora takes parting shot at Yankees

Alex Cora

Alex Cora delivered a parting shot in the direction of Luis Severino following Friday’s game between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees.

The first inning of Friday’s game between the two teams in Boston was an eventful one. Brett Gardner was hit by a pitch from Rick Porcello in the top half of the inning. In the bottom of the first, Severino came up and in on Mookie Betts. Cora came out to defend his star player and was ejected by home plate umpire Adam Hamari.

Cora’s Red Sox went on to win the game 4-1 without their manager.

Following the game, Cora was asked if the events during Friday’s game would carry over to the remaining games of the series this weekend. He responded by taking a swipe at Severino, the Yankees’ starter, who gave up all four runs in 5.2 innings.

There’s seemingly always tension when the Red Sox and Yankees meet. As if there was any doubt that would be the case this weekend, Cora certainly fanned the flames a bit with his remarks.
