Alex Rodriguez could play some first base next season

Joel-Sherman-Wants-Us-to-Leave-Alex-Rodriguez-AloneIf you’re like me, you probably forgot that Alex Rodriguez was still a Major League ballplayer and on the Yankees’ roster. It feels like he’s been away from the team and game forever. But Rodriguez will be back playing next season and could see some time at first base, according to the Yankees GM.

LoHud’s Chad Jennings reported Friday that Yankees GM Brian Cashman said manager Joe Girardi talked to A-Rod about playing some first base:

Rodriguez was the Yankees’ third baseman for most of his career and has also seen significant time as a DH in recent years. The team still has Mark Teixeira at first and will try to re-sign Chase Headley to play third, meaning Rodriguez probably will DH again in addition to potentially playing the corners. Rodriguez has only played shortstop and third base during his career.

A-Rod, 39, amazingly still has three years and $61 million left on his contract, which is insane. At least he won’t be paid more than $21 million in any of those seasons. I can’t wait to see him play first.
