Alex Rodriguez: Prospect of hitting more home runs than Babe Ruth ‘overwhelming’

Alex Rodriguez

Alex Rodriguez is 27 home runs away from tying Babe Ruth’s all-time mark, and he admitted that he finds the prospect of it rather incredible.

Kevin Kernan of the New York Post spoke with A-Rod, who called the possibility of tying the Babe “overwhelming.”

“When you start playing baseball at 9 years old, you never think about tying anybody, let alone a guy like Babe Ruth,” Rodriguez said.

A-Rod hit 33 home runs in 2015, so while it’s a tall order, it’s not impossible that the Yankee slugger could match or surpass the mark in 2016. To have this much success, however, he admitted that he had to rediscover his love of the game.

“It was reconnecting with the game, reconnecting with the clubhouse,” Rodriguez told me. “I love the clubhouse. What I found is how much fun the game is and last year I had a lot of fun.”

Rodriguez will never be liked, but he’s done a fairly good job rehabilitating his image within the clubhouse and returning to form to make some contributions for the Yankees, even if it meant haggling with the organization over bonus money.
