Alex Rodriguez voted most overrated player in baseball by SI players’ poll

Sports Illustrated released the results of its latest poll which asked MLB players to name the most overrated position player in baseball. Surprise surprise, Alex Rodriguez topped the list. The Yankees third baseman captured a strong percentage of the vote:

    1. Alex Rodriguez (16.8%)
    2. Derek Jeter (9.2%)
    3. Jayson Werth (6%)
    4. Nick Swisher (5.4%)
    5. Albert Pujols (4.7%)
    6. Ichiro Suzuki (3.4%)
    7. Hanley Ramirez (2.5%)
    8. Jason Heyward (2.3%)
    9. David Wright (2.1%)
    10. Coco Crisp (1.8%)

I know it’s fashionable to take shots at A-Rod — and believe me, we’ve done our fair share here at LBS — but there’s a lot to be said about making the list. Much like the way Reggie Jackson says “they don’t boo nobodies,” you don’t make this list if you haven’t done something in the game. I would take these 10 “overrated” players on my team and see you in the World Series.

There is only one player on the list who is different from the others, and that is Jason Heyward. He could belong on an overhyped list. When it comes to the rest of the players, I see a bunch of guys who are making a ton of money and not earning it this year (except for David Wright).
