Watch: Andrew Benintendi makes game-ending diving catch

Andrew Benintendi catch

In a game that featured some stellar defensive plays, it’s fitting that Game 4 of the ALCS ending on a spectacular play in the field.

Andrew Benintendi made a diving catch with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the 9th inning to end the game and seal an 8-6 win for the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday night in Houston.

Craig Kimbrel was going for a six-out save for the Red Sox and got into trouble in the ninth. He walked three to load the bases and bring up Alex Bregman, who lined the first pitch he saw into left. Benintendi gambled with a dive and was able to make the catch.

Had the ball gotten past him, the Astros likely would have cleared the bases and won.

That made three straight half-innings with amazing defensive plays.

Josh Reddick made a diving catch in right field with the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the ninth to prevent the Red Sox from scoring more runs.

And in the bottom of the eighth, Mookie Betts made an unreal play to gun out Tony Kemp trying to stretch a single into a double.

The Red Sox now lead the series 3-1, while Houston will be left grumbling about the fan interference call that cost them two runs — the difference in the loss.
