Andrew Heaney to have Tommy John surgery
Andrew Heaney was hoping to avoid having Tommy John surgery, but it looks like he will be unable to do so.
Heaney announced on Twitter that will have the surgery on his elbow Friday after he did not respond to stem cell treatment as well as hoped.

The Los Angeles Angels have had some of their pitchers trying out stem cell procedures to recover from arm injuries. Garrett Richards has been doing the same and reportedly has shown progress. Heaney had been showing progress at first, but the latest word was that it was not progressing well enough.
The No. 9 draft pick in 2012, Heaney went 6-4 with a 3.49 ERA last season and showed promise for the Angels after they acquired him from the Dodgers in the Howie Kendrick trade. He only made one start this season before having elbow problems.
