Angels closer Keynan Middelton to undergo Tommy John surgery
The news on Keynan Middleton is as bad as feared.
The Los Angeles Angels announced on Thursday that Middleton needs Tommy John surgery.
“After initial diagnosis and second opinion, it has been recommended that Keynan Middleton undergo UCL reconstruction. Keynan will meet with team doctors this evening to discuss timeline and formal plan of care. We will update with more information when appropriate,” the Angels said on Twitter.
The Tommy John surgery recommendation for Middleton seemed inevitable after he went for a second opinion on his UCL injury. Middleton is currently on the disabled list for the second time this season due to elbow problems. He was activated from the disabled list on May 10 after dealing with elbow inflammation. He made three appearances but left Sunday’s game against Minnesota with continued elbow problems.
Middleton had been pitching well for the Angels prior to his injury. He had six saves and a 2.04 ERA in 16 games this season.
