Aroldis Chapman will not face domestic violence charges

Aroldis Chapman

New York Yankees pitcher Aroldis Chapman will not face any charges stemming from an alleged domestic violence incident that took place with his girlfriend back in October.

Law enforcement officials confirmed to TMZ on Thursday that the Florida State Attorney’s office has decided to not move forward with criminal charges against Chapman due to a lack of evidence. Here are some details from the decision:

One of the interesting notes … investigators say Chapman admitted to injuring his hand (didn’t say which hand) when he punched a car window following an argument with his GF that night.

The document does not explain the extent of the injury.

Chapman also told investigators he did NOT punch his GF during the argument — but rather “poked her on the left shoulder and told her not to talk to him like that.”

On Wednesday, Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner defended the 27-year-old reliever.

“In this country, when allegations are brought against a person, that person is completely innocent until proven otherwise,” Steinbrenner said. “Not the other way around.”

The Yankees acquired Chapman from the Reds last month. Chapman could still face discipline from Major League Baseball, but there have already been rumblings that he is unlikely to be handed a lengthy suspension.

If you have not heard the disturbing allegations Chapman’s girlfriend made against him, you can read the details here.

Avoiding criminal charges is a positive step for Chapman in terms of his eligibility, but he is not out of the woods until MLB concludes its investigation.
