Astros give businessman ‘Mattress Mack’ a World Series ring

The Houston Astros provided a World Series ring to a local businessman who came to the aid of Houston residents during the aftermath Hurricane Harvey.

Last year, Jim McIngvale, owner of Gallery Furniture, made his warehouse and store locations available as shelters for those in need after the devastating storm that left thousands displaced. He also hosted a free Thanksgiving dinner that was attended by those affected by Hurricane Harvey. McIngvale also found himself in the news for a promotion related to the Astros.

McIngvale, who has become known as “Mattress Mack”, offered a refund to customers who spent more than $3,000 on mattresses if the Astros won the World Series. As a result of their victory over the Dodgers, McIngvale gave more than $10 million in refunds, according to WSB Radio.

When it came time to hand out World Series rings, McIngvale was not forgotten. Astros president of business operations Reid Ryan recently presented McIngvale with a ring of his very own.

McIngvale has been a valuable member of the Houston community. It was an incredibly nice gesture for the Astros to acknowledge his efforts while celebrating their first championship.
