Astros reportedly interested in reunion with Carlos Beltran

Houston, we may have a return.

According to a report by Mark Feisand of the New York Daily News on Wednesday, the Houston Astros are “hot” for free agent outfielder Carlos Beltran, who played for them briefly back in 2004.

The 39-year-old Beltran hit .295/.337/.513 with 29 home runs and 93 RBIs last season, splitting time between the New York Yankees and the Texas Rangers. He was acquired by the Astros from the Kansas City Royals midseason in 2004, but he appeared in just 102 games for them (regular season and playoffs) before signing with the New York Mets in free agency the very next winter.

Beltran, who still can be a big-time producer despite his age, said earlier this offseason that he’s hoping to re-sign with the Rangers. But the Astros will likely be about as close to title contention as the Rangers are next season, so it should at least make for an interesting intrastate competition for the nine-time All-Star’s talents.
