Report: Brian Cashman covets Kyle Schwarber in trade talks with Cubs
With the New York Yankees looking at the possibility of being trade deadline sellers, general manager Brian Cashman has begun to assess who he’d like if he trades assets.
According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports, Cashman covets Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber, believing his left-handed power stroke would be an ideal fit at Yankee Stadium.
“Cash thinks he can hit 50 home runs there,” a source told Passan.
The problem for Cashman is that the Cubs are not likely to part with Schwarber, with Passan saying it’s extremely unlikely that the Cubs trade their injured young star.
The Cubs want a Yankee reliever, but it’s hard to see them being tempted to move Schwarber in such a deal. Of course, flags fly forever. Chicago may well be tempted to pull the trigger.
