Bryce Harper’s Under Armour deal is largest ever for MLB player
Washington Nationals superstar Bryce Harper recently signed a 10-year endorsement deal with Under Armour, and it is a big one — a very big one.
ESPN’s Darren Rovell reports that Harper’s new deal is believed to be the largest endorsement deal ever for a baseball player. Under Armour did not disclose the terms of the new agreement.
Harper originally signed with Under Armour back in 2011, less than a year after he was drafted by the Nationals with the No. 1 overall pick in the MLB Draft. The company will begin selling his first signature cleat, the Under Armour Harper One, in July.
Under Armour has signed some huge names to lucrative contracts in recent years, the biggest of which are Stephen Curry, Jordan Spieth, Tom Brady, Cam Newton and Clayton Kershaw. You would have to think Harper’s new deal rivals that of any of the aforementioned superstars.
Harper had a breakout season in 2015 with a .330 batting average, 42 home runs, 99 RBI and a whopping .649 slugging percentage — all career highs. He already has nine homers and 24 RBI in just 25 games this season. Under Armour is hoping the 23-year-old keeps those numbers up, because we all saw what can happen when one of the brand’s biggest endorsers falls flat on his face.
