Chris Sale likely to be disciplined for throwing behind Manny Machado

Chris Sale

Chris Sale is likely to face some sort of discipline from MLB for throwing behind Manny Machado during Tuesday’s Red Sox-Orioles game.

FOX MLB reporter Ken Rosenthal said Wednesday that he spoke with MLB officer Joe Torre, who indicated discipline for the Red Sox pitcher is likely. That could include a suspension, warning or fine.

There has been major drama between the Red Sox and Orioles this season. During the previous series between the teams, Machado got Dustin Pedroia with a takeout slide that sparked an issue between the teams. Things were heightened when a Red Sox pitcher threw at Machado a few games later.

Then this week Machado took a slow home run trot on Monday and was booed by the crowd. A day later Sale threw behind him in his first at-bat. Machado was vocal after the game that he was losing respect for the way Boston was handling things. At least the commissioner’s office will be trying to address matters. Don’t be surprised if the Orioles retaliate on Wednesday.
