Craig Breslow allows run to score on throwing error (GIF)

The Boston Red Sox somewhat resembled the St. Louis Cardinals during Game 2 of the World Series.

After taking a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on David Ortiz’s 2-run home run, the Sox gave it right back the next inning. St. Louis loaded the bases loaded with one out. Boston had Craig Breslow in the game in relief of John Lackey.

Breslow allowed an RBI sacrifice fly to left to Matt Carpenter. Pete Kozma scored on Jonny Gomes’ throw home, but the throw got away from catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who was charged with an error for his poor fielding. Breslow backed up the throw home and picked up the ball and tried to gun down Jon Jay at third, but his throw was high and went into left field, allowing Jay to score. The game quickly went from 2-1 to 3-2 on that play, and then Breslow allowed an RBI single to Carlos Beltran on the next play.

Breslow only faced three batters and it wasn’t pretty. And if you’re wondering why we said the Sox looked like the Cardinals, watch this.

John Farrell did not enjoy what he was watching:
