Drew Hutchinson nailed in head by own catcher’s throw (Video)
Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Drew Hutchinson was drilled in the head by a baseball on Sunday. Surprisingly, the ball did not come off an opponent’s bat.
Blue Jays catcher A.J. Jimenez was attempting to throw out a base stealer when the throw sailed a bit low on him and nailed Hutchinson in the back of his head. The ball ricocheted off toward third base.
Hutchinson appeared to avoid a serious injury, but he was forced to leave the game after just four innings. He was optioned to Triple-A on Monday morning.
Amazing how quickly things change: In 2015, Drew Hutchison was the Blue Jays opening day starter. Today, Hutch optioned to Triple-A Buffalo.

As a side note, Hutchinson was Toronto’s Opening Day starter last season. Talk about a rough weekend.
It’s a good thing Hutchinson had his head turned, otherwise he could have ended up like that softball player who was drilled with a line drive last month. We’re guessing he’ll duck even lower from now on.
