Report: Giants banned Pablo Sandoval from ordering room service

The San Francisco Giants were supposedly so concerned about Pablo Sandoval’s eating habits that they took steps to prevent him from being able to order room service while staying in team hotels.

Sean McAdam of CSSNE.com told 98.5 The Sports Hub’s “Toucher and Rich Show” on Friday that Sandoval’s eating disorder is a very real thing. So real, in fact, that the Giants asked hotel employees to ignore Panda’s requests to have food delivered to his room while the team was on the road.

“This is how concerned the Giants were when he played for them — they would make special arrangements at the hotel the Giants were staying in to not allow him to order room service,” McAdam said, as transcribed by Samer Kalaf of Deadspin. “They would tell the front desk management, ‘If he calls down for room service at night after games, do not send anything to this room.’ They went to great measures to try to cut down on those eating binges, and it would only work for a time because he would find someplace to get food.”

Sandoval’s well-documented issues with staying in shape have quickly gone from entertaining to sad. Earlier this week, a trainer who worked with Sandoval said the 29-year-old needs a baby sitter to watch over him and make sure he is not binge eating.

That trainer also said Sandoval exercises plenty, he just eats way too much. McAdam echoed those remarks, saying he knows someone who constantly spotted Sandoval in the gym bright and early over the winter.

While many were outraged by these comments that a Giants broadcaster made a couple of months ago, it sounds like they may have been accurate. Sandoval needs to get help if he wants to continue with what has been a successful career.
