Hanley Ramirez escapes with bruise as X-rays on wrist are negative

Hanley Ramirez hit

The news on Hanley Ramirez appears to be positive.

X-rays on Ramirez’s wrist were negative, the Red Sox announced. Boston says the first baseman has a bruise.

Ramirez was hit in the wrist by a 94 mph fastball from New York Yankees pitcher Sonny Gray in the first inning of Thursday’s game between the teams. Ramirez exited the game and was replaced by Mitch Moreland, who later delivered an RBI single in the second.

The hit by pitch came a day after a bench-clearing brawl between the teams, which is why both sides were warned after Ramirez was hit.

Hanley has a hit in all but one of Boston’s games this season, and he has recorded six multi-hit games. He’s impressively driven in 12 runs this season and has been a big reason for Boston’s hot start. They will be relieved if he only has to miss a few games.
