Jason Kipnis uses Instagram to help find shinguard

A trusted piece of Jason Kipnis’ gear is missing so he turned to social media for help.

Since his days as a collegiate baseball player, the now 30-year-old Indians second baseman has had on a white shinguard when he stepped into the batter’s box. Unfortunately, it has gone missing and Kipnis has found out the manufacturer no longer makes it anymore. That hasn’t deterred him in his search for a replacement, though.

On Thursday, Kipnis posted a photo of his preferred piece of equipment to his Instagram account and requested help in finding a replacement. He’s even willing to exchange game tickets or memorabilia for one. Here’s what Kipnis wrote.

Perhaps as much as athletes in any other sport, baseball players are largely creatures of habit. Kipnis has certainly had his share of success wearing his white shinguard, including two All-Star appearances and winning the American League pennant last year.

Kipnis is currently on a stint in the minor leagues as he rehabs a strained rotator cuff in his right shoulder. Hopefully, by the time he returns to Cleveland’s big league, he will have obtained a white Easton shinguard.
