Joe Girardi literally throws in the towel after Yankees loss (GIF)
The New York Yankees were held to just two hits in a 2-0 loss to the Texas Rangers on Thursday, and manager Joe Girardi had seen enough by the end of the game. Girardi literally threw in the towel after his Yankees were KO’d in the contest.
New Jersey’s favorite son Derek Holland allowed just four baserunners while striking out seven Yanks in the complete game shutout. Ichiro and Austin Romine had the hits for the Yanks. It was the first time since 1983 that a left-handed pitcher shutout the Yankees on two-or-fewer hits.
The Yankees have been without starters Mark Teixeira, Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Curtis Granderson, and Kevin Youkilis for most of the season. Vernon Wells and Travis Hafner hit out of their minds the first month of the season, but it looks like that magic has come to an end. Now, the offense is starting to look the way one should when it includes the likes of Alberto Gonzalez, David Adams, and Austin Romine. The Yankees offense has been rapidly crashing back to earth.
