John Farrell ejected in Game 4 of ALDS after Dustin Pedroia called strike

John Farrell face

Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell was ejected early in Game 4 of the ALDS on Monday after a questionable called third strike on Dustin Pedroia.

With Pedroia batting in the bottom of the second in a bases-loaded situation, a questionable third strike was called on a low pitch. Pedroia immediately began barking at home plate umpire Mark Wegner. That brought Farrell out of the dugout, and it was the manager who ended up getting tossed.

Farrell was frustrated after a couple of borderline strike calls to Jackie Bradley Jr. the at-bat before, but he would not have come out of the dugout if Pedroia wasn’t on the verge of getting ejected himself. Arguing balls and strikes is supposed to result in an automatic ejection anyway, so Wegner hardly a choice.

The Red Sox had the bases loaded with nobody out in the second, and they failed to score a run.
