Astros prospect Jonathan Singleton should stop talking about weed on Twitter

Jonathan-SingletonTwitter is one of the simplest and most effective ways for young athletes to get themselves into trouble. Houston Astros prospect Jonathan Singleton may be in the process of figuring that out, and it is only a matter of time before the team tells him to cut the crap (if they haven’t already).

Over the weekend, a sports collector asked Singleton if he would autograph something if it was sent to the Astros ballpark as fan mail. Singleton, who was obviously joking, tweeted then deleted the following.

As Hardball Talk reminded us, Singleton opened up about his battle with marijuana addiction earlier this year. He called himself a “drug addict” after spending a month at a rehabilitation center, and the Astros commended him for addressing his problem like a mature adult. His tweet was the opposite of mature.

Singleton also tweets stuff like this:

Again, not a huge deal, but not the type of attention an MLB team wants one of its top prospects attracting. The Pittsburgh Pirates basically told Tony Sanchez to get off Twitter a few years ago when he was writing boneheaded stuff. The Astros should probably do the same with Singleton.
