Jose Reyes reportedly set to rejoin New York Mets

Jose Reyes

Jose Reyes is set to return to the place where he started his Major League career.

According to ESPN’s Adam Rubin, the New York Mets are set to sign Reyes once he officially becomes a free agent on Saturday.

Reyes’s role is yet to be defined. The Mets have an everyday shortstop in Asdrubal Cabrera, but they have a void at third base with David Wright injured, and they may even try Reyes in the outfield.

Reyes still has a home on Long Island after playing for the Mets through 2011. The 33-year-old probably had no trouble deciding to return.

The former All-Star was arrested for domestic violence last October and was suspended through May for the incident. The Rockies elected to release him rather than call him up when his suspension and minor league assignment ended.
