Josh Donaldson explains ‘Bringer of Rain’ Twitter handle (Video)

Blue Jays third baseman, and reigning American League MVP, Josh Donaldson has used his Twitter account in past to reveal the above pictured vikings-inspired haircut and to announce he would be making a cameo on the History channel show “Vikings.” When he makes such announcements, Donaldson does so by way of the Twitter handle “BringerOfRain20.”

Given his job as a baseball player, you could justify Donaldson’s chosen handle could be related to the towering home runs he hits. However, that would be incorrect. Donaldson recently spoke with Jim Cantore of The Weather Channel to discuss the origin. As he explains, it comes from the STARZ show “Spartacus: Blood and Sand.”

“I stole it from a show called ‘Spartacus: Blood and Sand.’ So the guy defeats one of the legends of the arena. Their town was in a drought for six months … cuts his head off, it starts raining. Gives the name ‘Spartacus: Bringer of Rain.’ I was like, ‘I feel like I’ve kinda destroyed some giants in my time … bringer of rain. That’s why I came up with it.”

It’s safe to say, there are probably more than a few at The Weather Channel who were disappointed to find out “Bringer of Rain” doesn’t have weather ties. However, after finding out Donaldson’s Twitter handle stems from a show with Spartacus in the title, there’s little doubting it fits him well.
