Las Vegas gunman reportedly researched hotels around Fenway Park

Mandalay Bay hotel

The gunman who opened fire on a crowd of concert-goers and killed 59 people in Las Vegas Sunday night reportedly researched other locations to carry out the same act, one of which was Fenway Park.

A senior law enforcement official told NBC News that 64-year-old Stephen Paddock researched hotels near Fenway Park in Boston. Paddock likely chose not to make the home of the Boston Red Sox a target because there are no hotels in the area with a direct view of the ballpark. There is no indication that Paddock ever traveled to Boston.

Paddock also researched Lollapalooza, a music festival in Chicago, and booked a hotel room for early August when the event was held. He reportedly never showed up for his reservation.

The tragedy that unfolded in Las Vegas has sent shockwaves across the world, and that includes within the realm of sports. On Wednesday night, the Arizona Diamondbacks paid tribute to a former employee who was one of the 59 people killed by Paddock. The young woman most recently worked for the Los Angeles Rams.

Paddock committed suicide before police got to his hotel room.
