Manny Machado responds to Brewers calling him ‘dirty player’

Manny Machado

Manny Machado caused the benches to clear in Game 4 of the NLCS Tuesday night with a play that had Brewers players seeing red, but the Dodgers star does not seem concerned about the opinion of his opponents.

Machado clipped Milwaukee first baseman Jesus Aguilar in the leg while running out a routine ground ball in the bottom of the 10th inning. The way he dragged his foot made it obvious it was intentional, and he was fortunate to not have injured Aguilar.

After the game, Brewers star Christian Yelich called Machado’s antics a “dirty play from a dirty player” who has “a history of those types of incidents.” Yelich said if a play like that happened one time from Machado it might be considered an accident, but he sees it as a pattern. He then became more animated before he stopped answering questions about it.

When asked about Yelich ripping him, Machado did not seem concerned.

Between the dirty play on Tuesday and the remarks he made about not hustling, Machado is hardly the most well-liked player in baseball this postseason. It will be interesting to see if the Dodgers retaliate in Game 5.
