Report: Marlins have discussed signing Alex Rodriguez, deal is ‘long shot’

Alex Rodriguez

Alex Rodriguez is being pushed out the door by the Yankees, but that doesn’t mean he will outright refuse to play again if he gets the opportunity.

To that point, the Miami Marlins have had internal discussions about signing Rodriguez after he is released, according to Jon Heyman of Today’s Knuckleball. Heyman described the chances of a move, however, as a “long shot.”

Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria is said to be a fan of Rodriguez. A-Rod also played his high school baseball in Miami and was set to play college ball there until he was drafted. He has long-standing ties to the city, but it sounds like the interest is lukewarm at best.

Rodriguez’s exit from New York has grown a bit messy. While it’s being described as a retirement, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him play again in 2016 if someone came calling.
