Report: Marlins not actively shopping Giancarlo Stanton

Giancarlo Stanton

Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton reportedly will not be traded this month.

FOX Sports’s Ken Rosenthal reported Saturday that the Marlins are receiving phone calls on Stanton, but are only “passively listening” and not making an aggressive effort to move the outfielder. The offers have been in the form of a combination of established players, prospects, and financial relief.

Rosenthal said the Marlins will not trade Stanton during the season, citing the fact that their ownership situation has not completely concluded yet. A Stanton trade sounds possible in the offseason, and his value could be high if he continues homering at the rate he is.

Indications are that once the ownership situation is settled, trading Stanton will become a more real possibility. For now, Miami can still enjoy him — he’s up to 49 home runs and counting with a full month left in the season.
