Report: Matt Harvey was partying at club until 4 a.m. day of absence

Matt Harvey Mets

The Matt Harvey saga is not about to go away anytime soon, and things are only looking worse for the New York Mets pitcher’s public image.

According to a report from the New York Post’s Page Six, Harvey was out at a club drinking with friends until 4 a.m. on Saturday morning, the day he no-showed for his Mets, leading to a suspension.

Page Six says Harvey was out at 1Oak, a popular club, with some friends. They reportedly showed up around 1 a.m., drank some premium alcohol, and left around 4 a.m.

Fan Rag Sports’ Jon Heyman reports that Harvey went golfing Saturday with a foursome, ate a lunch prepared by a chef, and then fell asleep.

There has been a dispute about who reached out first to communicate that Harvey would not be reporting to the park to join his team Saturday night, with the Mets saying their pitching coach reached out because he was concerned, and Harvey saying he texted the coach. Either way, the notice from Harvey came after he had already missed the 3 p.m. cutoff time to notify the team that you won’t be making it for a game. Harvey reportedly told the team he had a migraine.

The Mets reportedly sent security to Harvey’s home Saturday night to check up on the pitcher.

The team ended up suspending Harvey three games without pay. He plans to file a grievance over the suspension and feels he is being singled out and blamed for the team’s problems of late. The team reportedly feels it was time to put their foot down and address an accumulation of issues by Harvey, such as the one two years ago.
