Matt Harvey may pitch shorter half-outings

Matt Harvey

The New York Mets and Matt Harvey may resolve the innings limit controversy by having the pitcher throw shorter half-outings over the remainder of the season.

Harvey has thrown 171.2 innings this season. His agent Scott Boras says Harvey has a strict 180 innings limit as prescribed by his doctors. The two sides reached a compromise with Harvey saying he will pitch in the postseason. So how will they manage the situation?

Mets manager Terry Collins indicated on Sunday that he will limit Harvey to four or five innings in half-outings.

Of course, if Harvey continues to get blown up like he did in his last outing against the Nationals, then the innings limit may come naturally.

Harvey’s next outing might not come until next weekend against the Yankees, Collins indicated.

If you ask me, messing around with his schedule and innings per outing is doing more harm than anything. They’re just really tinkering too much with something that already worked well enough.
