Matt Harvey suspended for undisclosed violation of team rules

Matt Harvey Mets

The New York Mets announced on Sunday that the team has suspended starting pitcher Matt Harvey for three games.

General manager Sandy Alderson made a statement announcing the disciplinary action, and manager Terry Collins provided no additional information.

“I’m not going into depth,” Collins said, per Abbey Mastracco of NJ.com. “I’m going to keep it in house, the way it’s supposed to be.”

On Friday night, a photo from the Mets locker room that showed a sex toy sitting in someone’s locker in the background went viral. There has been speculation that Harvey was behind that photo, but multiple reports indicate the suspension has nothing to do with that.

Collins and the Mets have been frustrated with the seeming lack of maturity their team has shown this year. Starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard was recently placed on the DL, and you have to wonder if he could have avoided a serious injury by not being so stubborn.

Whatever Harvey did, it obviously irritated the club. And because he was suspended three games, you can bet it wasn’t the first time he did it. Harvey was scheduled to start against the Miami Marlins on Sunday.
