Matt Williams involved in auto accident during live radio interview (Audio)

matt-williams-nationalsWhen someone is behind the wheel of an automobile while giving a live radio interview, there’s no telling what you might hear.

Earlier this year, Steve Smith of the Baltimore Ravens was pulled over by police during his interview on ESPN Radio.

On Wednesday morning, Washington Nationals manager Matt Williams was involved in an automobile accident on his way to the ballpark while doing his weekly segment with our friends The Sports Junkies on 106.7 The Fan in DC.

A transcript of the interview, courtesy of CBS Washington, details Williams describing the events.

“Sorry guys, I just had an accident,” Williams abruptly said.

“You okay?” EB asked.

“I’ve got a police officer behind me. This guy’s gonna try to escape,” Williams said. “The guy’s running.”

“Alright, hold on,” EB said. “Did you witness the accident, or you’re in the accident?”

“He just ran right in the back of me,” Williams said.

“Oh, you got rear-ended?” JP asked.

“I just got rear-ended by a guy in a car,” Williams said. “Hold on. This guy’s crashing into people.”

“Oh no,” EB said.

“Yea,” Williams confirmed.

“Are you okay?” EB asked.

“I’m good,” Williams said. “There was a police car behind me, and a guy in a car and he tried to get by me and he just smoked me.”

The Nationals had an early afternoon game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, which they won 3-2. For Matt Williams, the action that took place after first pitch pales in comparison to what transpired prior to arriving at Nationals Park. Thankfully, he was unharmed.

CBS noted an arrest has been made as a result of the incident.

Here’s audio of the interview via Sporting News.
