Max Scherzer pitches second no-hitter of season (Video)
Back in June, Max Scherzer threw his first no-hitter of the season against the Pirates, an effort that saw him record 10 strikeouts. On Saturday, he was even better.
The 31-year-old struck out Mets batters 17 times en route to his second no-hitter of 2015. The strikeout total is tied for the most in a no-hitter since 1900 and Scherzer is the first to have two no-hitters during the same regular season since Nolan Ryan in 1973.
Scherzer is his first year with the Nationals after signing a seven-year, $210 million contract during the offseason. He finishes the season with a 14-12 record and career-low 2.79 ERA in 228.2 innings pitched, which are a career-high. His 276 strikeouts are the most Scherzer has recorded in a single season and place him second in the National League behind Clayton Kershaw’s 294.
