Mets GM seems open to trading team’s aces

Jacob deGrom

The New York Mets’ front office is in transition, and the new man in charge seems open to trading the team’s aces.

John Ricco, who will essentially be serving as the team’s GM while Sandy Alderson is away to receive cancer treatment, says he will consider all trades. That includes offers for pitchers Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard.

When asked about the team’s plans for their pitchers, Ricco said Wednesday “we’re going to talk about that.” He said that “everything has to be on the table,” though he noted it wouldn’t be easy to part with pitchers of their caliber.

Both pitchers would be highly desirable on the trade market. Syndergaard, 25, is under team control through 2021. He is working his way back from a finger injury and has a 2.90 career ERA. DeGrom, 30, becomes a free agent a year earlier, but considering his 1.69 ERA, teams might covet him more. However, the Mets were previously said to be less likely to trade him than Syndergaard.
