Here’s something you don’t see very often: two Miami Marlins players attempted to occupy the same base at the same exact time but were ultimately unsuccessful.
The play happened in the top of the sixth inning of the Washington Nationals’ 4-3 win over the Marlins on Wednesday. Adeiny Hechavarria was up with men on the corners and nobody out, and he grounded a ball to third. Ryan Zimmerman alertly threw home to try getting runner Logan Morrison, who broke for the plate. Catcher Wilson Ramos then got Morrison in a rundown and chased him back to third. But that’s where the fun happened.
Donovan Solano was the runner at first, but he did the smart thing and tried making it all the way to third while Morrison was caught in the rundown. Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond was covering third and tagged out Morrison, and he nearly made every highlight reel for the ages by tagging Solano, but the second baseman made it to the bag on time.
It’s too bad both didn’t end up safe or out, because then we would have either had a sick highlight or an awesome blunder straight out of “Little Big League.”Google+
