MLB.com publishes wrong story saying A’s beat Royals

It was a long night in Kansas City where the Royals outlasted the A’s 9-8 in 12 innings on Tuesday night to win the first wild-card game of the 2014 MLB playoffs. The game was so long and featured so many comebacks by the Royals that it forced writers to constantly rework their game stories. No one knows that better than MLB.com.

Immediately after the Royals won the game on a walk-off hit by Salvador Perez, MLB.com published an older version of their game story that had the A’s winning 7-6. LBS tipster Reyes saw the errant story come through on his MLB.com app and sent it over to LBS.

The article was quickly removed and replaced with the correct game story, so you know MLB.com made a mistake.

Writers covering live sporting events frequently work on their stories as the game is unfolding so that they can make their deadlines. It’s just not very often that we see the wrong version of a story actually get published like this.
