Report: MLB hoping Bryce Harper participates in Home Run Derby

Bryce Harper

Major League Baseball really wants Bryce Harper in the Home Run Derby in front of his own fans.

According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, MLB has reached out to Harper to gauge his interest in participating in the event, which will be held at Nationals Park this year. As of yet, Harper has given no indication which way he is leaning, and reportedly hasn’t made any decisions himself.

There is also some hope that Harper’s relationship with T-Mobile, a Derby sponsor, could add further incentive for him to take part. MLB really wants Harper involved, as there is concern that many stars will opt against participating and the league wants star power involved.

Harper has only participated in the Derby once, in 2013. In the past, he has been critical of the Derby, and his home field is likely the lone factor that could get him to change his mind.
