MLB suspends grand slam promotion with Papa John’s after controversy

Papa John

MLB has reportedly suspended its grand slam promotion with Papa John’s in response to a controversy involving its founder.

MLB began its relationship with the pizza chain in 2016, according to Yahoo Sports. They’ve been running a promotion where grand slams were nicknamed “Papa Slam.” Fans could use a promo code at Papa John’s to get 40% off their order the day after a grand slam was hit in MLB.

Yahoo noted that the grand slam hit by the Yankees’ Greg Bird did not appear on the sponsorship page Wednesday night.

Papa John’s founder John Schnatter apologized on Wednesday after news became public that he used the N-word during a conference call in May.

Schnatter stepped down as the company’s CEO last year after blaming NFL player protests for his company’s slow sales.
