Nationals retiring their chocolate syrup celebrations for 2016

The world-famous Washington Nationals chocolate syrup celebrations are a thing of the past.

According to Max Scherzer in an interview with Jim Bowden and Jim Duquette on SiriusXM MLB Network Radio, the Nats will be retiring the chocolate syrup parties that marked their no-hitters and walkoff wins in 2015.

“That was last year,” Scherzer said, via Scott Allen of the Washington Post. “That was just a one-year thing. It was kind of a spur of the moment how it even came about. We’ll look for a new way try to have some more fun this year, in ’16.”

Bryce Harper said it’s Scherzer’s prerogative as to what the new celebration would be.

“I think Max will do a great job on picking that,” Harper said. “He did a great job picking that last year, so, we’ll have a little bit of fun with that, and I’m sure we’ll flash some ideas out there and get it going.”

The Nationals are not the only beltway club to dump a popular celebration. The Baltimore Orioles won’t be using pies anymore for safety reasons.
