Orioles to play White Sox without fans, lose home games to Rays

Freddie Gray Orioles protest

The Orioles issued a press release on Tuesday afternoon outlining the schedule changes that have been made as a result of the ongoing protests in Baltimore.

For starters, Monday’s and Tuesday’s games against the Chicago White Sox will be played as a single-admission doubleheader on May 28, which was originally scheduled as an off day. On Wednesday, the Orioles will play the White Sox at home at 2:05 p.m. and the game will be closed to the public. No fans will be allowed inside the ballpark.

The Orioles will also essentially be losing three home games, as their weekend series against the Tampa Bay Rays has been moved to Tropicana Field. The O’s will be treated as the home team, meaning they will bat last if needed.

After Monday’s game was postponed, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred revealed that the league was exploring the possibility of moving Orioles games to another city. Now that a short-term resolution has been reached, we can only hope the ongoing riots cool down over the next several days.
