Padres reportedly considering reunion with Jake Peavy
The prodigal son may be coming home to San Diego this offseason.
According to a report by Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune on Tuesday, the Padres are exploring the possibility of a reunion with right-hander Jake Peavy.
One of the great pitchers in Padres franchise history, Peavy was with the team from 2002 to 2009, going 92-68 with a 3.29 ERA and 1,348 strikeouts. He made two All-Star appearances in a San Diego uniform and won the NL Cy Young Award in 2007.
Now 35 years old, Peavy doesn’t have a whole lot left in the tank after posting a 5-9 record with a 5.54 ERA for the San Francisco Giants last season. But for a Padres team with a lot of innings that need to be eaten, a one-year homecoming deal would be a nice feel good story for everyone (provided that Peavy can stay away from the San Diego fishing scene).
