Rays’ Blake Snell hilariously calls out local paper for botching his name
Tampa Bay Rays lefty Blake Snell outdueled Justin Verlander in a win over the Houston Astros on Tuesday, and yet some people still can’t get his name right.
After Snell threw seven innings of one-run ball to earn the victory and halt the Astros’ winning streak at twelve straight games, the Tampa Bay Times tweeted out a recap article of the performance. The only problem was that their caption erronenously referred to the 25-year-old pitcher as “Matt Snell.”

Snell himself replied to the tweet in hilarious fashion with a monocle emoji.

The former first-round pick Snell has easily been Tampa Bay’s best pitcher this season, going 9-4 through 16 starts for the team. His 2.48 ERA also ranks eighth in the league while his 103 strikeouts rank 12th (per ESPN).
As for the “Matt Snell” error, it was definitely a funny oversight. But hopefully it doesn’t give opposing fans any ideas.
