Report: Yankees to consider Yu Darvish if price drops

Yu Darvish Dodgers

The Yankees will reportedly consider going after free agent pitcher Yu Darvish, but only at a reasonable price.

The Yankees are in search of another arm to bolster their starting rotation and have been linked to several names, such as Gerrit Cole. New York could also go the free agent route with Yu Darvish as an option, but his price would need to drop, according to FanRag Sports’ Jon Heyman.

The Yankees have made it known they would like to get their 2018 payroll under the luxury tax threshold. New York has paid the 50 percent tax for 15 consecutive seasons.

Darvish, 31, is still capable of being an extremely effective pitcher, despite his struggles during this year’s postseason with the Dodgers, which appears to have been caused by Darvish tipping his pitches.

The Yankees likely won’t be the only ones keeping tabs on Darvish though. The Astros, Cubs, and Twins have reportedly expressed interest in Darvish since the end of last season.

If the Yankees are able to ultimately land Darvish, it would put an exclamation point on what has already been a great offseason with the team already acquiring this year’s National League MVP Giancarlo Stanton.
