Robert Refsnyder, who called South Carolina racist, assigned to S.C. team

Last month at the College World Series, former Arizona outfielder Robert Refsnyder got a taste of how cruel sports fans can be. After Arizona beat South Carolina, the South Korean-born Refsnyder took to Twitter to blast the fans in South Carolina for being racist. He said they were yelling inappropriate comments to him and that he would “never live in South Carolina because they can’t accept Asians playing baseball.” Now, he has no choice.

Ironically enough, Refsnyder was selected by the Yankees in the fifth round of the MLB draft and has been assigned to their Class A affiliate in Charleston, South Carolina. Talk about awkward. Don’t worry, he has taken back what he said.

“As soon as I landed in Charleston, people have been nothing but great…” Refsnyder said according to the Post and Courier. “Generalizing the whole state was foolish on my part, just immature.”

That’s the thing about being drafted by an MLB team — you never know where you might end up. It’s wise to not burn bridges in any part of the country, since pro teams have affiliates all over the U.S. Refsnyder learned that rather quickly. Unfortunately, there are racist fans everywhere. Earlier this week, Carl Crawford said he fell victim to racism during a rehab assignment for the Red Sox with their minor league affiliate in New Hampshire. If every state that houses racist people is a racist state, I’m afraid all 50 U.S. states are racist.
