Roger Clemens understands David Price’s struggles with Boston media

Roger Clemens

Roger Clemens can relate to David Price’s frustration with the media in Boston.

Price, who is in his second season with the Red Sox, recently told reporters he would not be talking about personal items with them. Instead, he said he would only speak when it was his turn to start in the rotation.

Clemens, who spent the first 13 seasons of his career in Boston, said on WEEI Friday that he knows where Price is coming from.

“I learned that it’s a little different brand of baseball in the East,” Clemens said.

Clemens acknowledged he had problems with the Boston media too.

“You know, I had my bumps in the road,” Clemens said. “I think it’s because you want to do so well all the time, and when you don’t, I think it gets at you a little bit. Because if you’re a prideful man, you want to do well. I mean, it’s your job.”

Clemens also said that while it’s important to play with an edge in order to compete and succeed in MLB, one should always strive to be nice off the field.

Price started off the season on the DL but has returned and made four starts for the Sox. He’s 1-1 with a 5.09 ERA so far, and has a long ways to go to match the three Cy Youngs the Rocket won in Boston.
