As many know, in addition to being a Super Bowl-winning quarterback, Russell Wilson has a baseball playing background. Wilson recently made a trip to the Rangers’ spring training facility and was the recipient of a few cheers during his batting practice session. The two-time Pro Bowl quarterback showed good form on a swing that resulted in a home run to left field.
Wilson was drafted by the Orioles in 2007 and by the Rockies in 2010 after playing while at NC State. Two years ago, the Rangers selected Wilson in the Rule 5 Draft and invited him to spring training, which didn’t seem to go over well with then manager Ron Washington.
After two consecutive trips to the Super Bowl, it’s tough to argue Russell Wilson made the right choice in choosing the sport with shoulder pads. That said, it’s always fun to see professional athletes taking part in sports we don’t associate them with, although Wilson is certainly no stranger to stepping in the batter’s box.
