Watch: Sean Newcomb loses no-hitter with two outs in ninth

Sean Newcomb

Sean Newcomb came one strike away from a no-hitter on Sunday before losing it on his 134th pitch of the afternoon.

The Atlanta Braves starter allowed his first and only hit of the game in a 4-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers to Chris Taylor. The hit was a solid single in the hole between third and shortstop, and it came with a 2-2 count and two outs.

The Braves southpaw got Logan Forsythe and Cody Bellinger out to start the inning before losing Taylor on the 2-2 pitch. He was immediately replaced by Dan Winkler, who allowed Taylor to score before closing out the 4-1 win.

Newcomb’s final line was one earned run on one hit and one walk over 8.2 innings with eight strikeouts. It was one of the finest starts of the season.

Newcomb has been awesome all season and is now 10-5 with a 3.23 ERA.
