Report: Starlin Castro questioned in connection to shooting

Starlin-Castro

Chicago Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro has reportedly been questioned in connection to a shooting that took place in the Dominican Republic early Sunday morning.

An initial report from ESPN’s Enrique Rojas indicated that Castro had been detained, but it appears that Castro is only being questioned. The shooting, which happened at a nightclub in Castro’s hometown of Montecristi, left six people injured.

Castro’s agent, Paul Kinzer, released a statement on Saturday confirming that Castro had spoken to authorities about the shooting but insisted his client did so voluntarily and and had “nothing to do” with the incident.

“Voluntarily, he went in and talked with them [the local authorities],” Kinzer said, per Jon Morosi of FOX Sports. “It wasn’t like he was taken in for questioning. According to (Castro), the police have video showing he wasn’t involved.”

Kinzer added that Castro was not “released” by authorities because they were never holding him.

Interestingly enough, this is the second time this month that Castro’s name has been linked to a nightclub shooting in his home country. Kinzer said after the first incident that Castro had been cleared of any wrongdoing and was simply in the “wrong place at the wrong time.”
