Terry Collins apologizes for jab at Mets PR employee

Terry Collins Mets

New York Mets manager Terry Collins apologized on Thursday for taking an uncalled for jab at one of the team’s PR employees a day earlier.

On Wednesday, Collins was frustrated despite the Mets’ 4-3 win over the Royals that two of his top players were hurt. Yoenis Cespedes left with an injury, as did pitcher Noah Syndergaard.

Collins neglected to mention Syndergaard’s status when meeting with the media after the game and was about to clear out of the interview room before team VP of media relations, Jay Horwitz, urged him to say something about Syndergaard’s elbow. Collins responded by name-calling Horwitz in front of reporters.

A day later he has apologized.

“I was out of line for saying what I said at the press conference,” Collins said Thursday via ESPN New York. “… He was just doing his job, and I wasn’t doing mine.”

Collins also acknowledged his behavior was “unprofessional” and complained to reporters that he hasn’t really been getting much of a chance to enjoy wins, which was his way of saying he was frustrated. At least it didn’t take him long to apologize.
